BREAKING: QB Grayson McCall to commit to NC State
NC State landed its top priority transfer portal quarterback Wednesday. Former Coastal Carolina signal-caller Grayson McCall is expected to join the Wolfpack after officially visiting the program over the weekend, a source confirmed.
He is NC State’s first quarterback commit of the 2024 transfer cycle and the fourth portal commit overall. McCall is also the fifth recruit to commit to the Wolfpack in five days, and he is now primed to compete for the program’s starting quarterback job this offseason.
After entering the portal with one season of eligibility remaining, the 6-3, 220-pound quarterback quickly scheduled an in-home visit with NC State. On3’s Pete Nakos reported that his meeting with the staff went extremely well, leading to his recent trip to Raleigh.
The three-time Sun Belt Player of the Year then took two official visits. First, he stopped by Raleigh last Friday, eating at The Capital Grille and spending time with the staff before leaving Saturday to visit UCF. The Golden Knights could not overcome the momentum that the Pack set in his recruitment, leading to McCall’s commitment to his home-state school.
During his Coastal Carolina career, the quarterback threw for 10,005 yards and 88 touchdowns with 14 interceptions, and added 1,113 yards on the ground and 18 more scores. He missed the final 5 games of the 2023 season due to injury and finished the year with 10 touchdowns, a career-high 6 interceptions and 1,919 passing yards.

McCall signed with Coastal Carolina as a three-star prospect out of Indian Trail (N.C.) Porter Ridge High in the 2019 class. On3 considered him the No. 102 recruit in North Carolina, but he quickly rose into superstardom with Coastal Carolina. After redshirting his first year, he broke out with 2,488 passing yards, 26 touchdowns and 3 interceptions, collecting his first of his three conference player of the year awards.
Per On3’s portal rankings, McCall is the No. 15 transfer quarterback this cycle. He dealt with an injury during his final season with Coastal Carolina while playing under head coach, and former NC State offensive coordinator Tim Beck. Before his injury, he still racked up more than 250 passing yards in 5 of his 7 games.
Based on TheWolfpacker.com’s count, McCall’s decision brings NC State up to 79 scholarships for the 2024 season once the 22 Wolfpack prep commits officially join the program.
