NC State football commits in action: Week 1
High school football season is officially underway, and most of NC State’s 12 class of 2023 commits took the field over the weekend for the first game of their senior seasons. The Wolfpacker put together recaps of the double-digit performances.
On3 Consensus three-star wide receiver Kevin Concepcion
Julius L. Chambers
Last game: Kevin Concepcion announced his commitment to NC State Saturday, and he was in the end zone just a few minutes later. On the second play of the game, the receiver caught a 70-yard touchdown. According to The Charlotte Observer, he finished the game with 104 receiving yards on five receptions. Chambers won the matchup with Cardinal Gibbons 28-14.

On3 Consensus four-star safety Daemon Fagan
American Heritage (Fla.)
Last game: NC State safety-commit Daemon Fagan made seven tackles and defended two passes in a 38-20 win for American Heritage over Lowndes. The safety and the rest of the defense shut out their opponent in the first half.

On3 Consensus four-star tight end Javonte Vereen
Havelock
Last game: In a blowout 42-0 win over Croatan, Javonte Vereen continued to showcase his elite big-play ability, catching three passes for 73 yards and two touchdowns. The NC State-commit also carried the ball once, scoring another touchdown on a 13-yard run.

On3 Consensus four-star safety Zack Myers
Christ School
Last game: In a tough 10-6 defeat, Zack Myers led his team in tackles with nine, including three for loss. He also caught one pass for 53 yards— Christ School’s most explosive play of the day.

On3 Consensus four-star offensive tackle Darion Rivers
West Charlotte
Last game: Darion Rivers and West Charlotte lost to Butler 27-0. Rivers committed to NC State in March.

On3 Consensus three-star offensive lineman Kamen Smith
Wilkes Central
Last game: In a 49-39 shootout with , Wilkes Central lost its season opener. Kamen Smith missed the game due to injury.

On3 Consensus three-star defensive lineman Isaiah Shirley
Watauga
Last game: Isaiah Shirley and the Watauga defense shut out T.C. Roberson in the first half on their way to a 42-13 win. According to the Watauga Democrat, the Pioneers held their opponent to 141 of total offense. Shirley committed to NC State just a few days after his official visit earlier this summer.

Heritage
Last game: Lex Thomas rushed for two touchdowns against Holly Springs, according to High School OT, to help elevate Heritage to a 20-14 win.

The Taft School (CT)
Last game: The Taft School and Charlie Symonds start their season Sept. 24. Symonds committed to the Wolfpack shortly after his official visit in June.

On3 Consensus three-star safety Tamarcus Cooley
Rolesville
Last game: NC State nickel-commit Tamarcus Cooley and Rolesville made one of the best plays of the weekend when he intercepted a pass and returned it more than 70 yards for a touchdown. Rolesville defeated Pinecrest 52-28.

Alpharetta (Ga.)
Last game: In Obadiah Obasuyi‘s first game with the program, Alpharetta won an extremely close 47-46 matchup with Jefferson.

Lakewood (S.C.)
Last game: Lakewood and Brandon Cisse lost its season-opener 42-9.
