Four-star safety Daemon Fagan commits to NC State
Following weeks of building up defensive recruiting momentum, NC State received its first On3 four-star commitment on that side of the ball Monday evening from Daemon Fagan. The class of 2023 safety started the July 4th fireworks a few hours early by announcing his commitment to the Wolfpack.
Fagan, who attends American Heritage High School in Florida, is one of the top safeties in the country and held offers from Ohio State, Miami and many others. In total, Fagan selected NC State from a group of more than 30 scholarship offers.
After teasing the announcement last week, Fagan announced his decision on Twitter.
Fagan is considered the 22nd-best safety prospect in the nation and the No. 224 prospect nationally by On3’s Rating System. His Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) slightly favored Ohio State prior to his announcement.
NC State was Fagan’s only known official visit, and safeties coach Joe DeForest is listed as his primary recruiter. Fagan made the trip to Raleigh during the first weekend of June. This was his only time visiting campus according to On3’s database, and he also visited Miami numerous times, Ohio State, Penn State and UCF.
The safety garnered national attention this summer at the Overtime OT7 seven-on-seven league in Las Vegas. Anchoring the defense for the weekend’s champion, South Florida Express, Fagan pulled down the winning interception in the finals.

As he shows in that clip, Fagan is a tall, 6-3 safety with good range and hands to match. On3’s Charles Power nearly selected Fagan to his top-performers list of the weekend, and gave a detailed scouting report on the defensive back after the event.
“The Fort Lauderdale American Heritage product was among the taller safeties on hand at 6-foot-3 and used his length to disrupt passing lanes,” Power wrote. “The compressed nature of 7-on-7 played to Fagan’s strengths. His range was amplified playing in goal line situations. The ball skills and instincts to make some critical plays in coverage stood out.”
Sam Spiegelman, who also covered the event for On3, included the safety in his starting seven of the weekend. On3’s Charles Power had the opportunity to connect with Fagan after day one of the tournament, writing that NC State hit a “grand slam” during his official visit. He mentioned that Fagan recognizes an chance to contribute early in his career with The Wolfpack.
Fagan is the third On3 four-star recruit of the 2023 class, joining tight end Javonte Vereen and offensive tackle Darion Rivers. He is also the fourth defensive prospect to commit and joins a talented group in the secondary made up of cornerback Brandon Cisse and safety Zack Myers. NC State’s 2023 class now sits 41st in the On3 Consensus team rankings.
