Davin Vann helps organize Hurricane Helene relief supplies drive
Davin Vann recorded career highs in tackles for loss, tackles, and forced fumbles Saturday. This week, the senior NC State defensive lineman is focused on making an impact that extends far beyond the football field as he organizes a supplies drive for hurricane relief in Western North Carolina.
Hurricane Helene passed through the state and left catastrophic damage over the weekend. The Asheville Citizen Times is reporting a death toll of 35 in Buncombe Country as communities deal with severe flooding damage that led to widespread power outages and obstructed/damaged roadways.
Vann and his mother, Joy Hall-Haley, are sending a truck full of sanitary products, water, food and much more west later this week. Their family, which owns the moving company Joyful Movers, are working with Durham Rescue Mission to make this possible.
They reached out to Dave Doeren about parking the truck near the Wolfpack football facility to send the supplies to communities that need them. The truck will leave Thursday. Before then, it will be parked outside NC State’s Close-King indoor practice facility— located next to Carter-Finley Stadium.
“Anything that anybody wants to bring over, we would love to fill this moving truck to take over to those folks, and [I am] really proud of and thankful for Davin and his family,” Doeren said Monday.
“Davin probably just came off the best game of his career as well, and for that to be what’s on his mind today, I think it says a lot about that young man and his family.”

Hall-Haley told TheWolfpacker.com that their family used to vacation in the mountains of Western Carolina all the time. They have the trucks available, so they wanted to find a way to help.
“We’re going to take it to Durham Rescue Mission,” Hall-Haley said. “They’re actually doing a supply drive as well on their own too.”
Vann is using his platform to make a meaningful difference. That resonated with his head coach and his mother as well. Hall-Haley said they have received a very strong response already to the call for supplies.
“It kind of is overwhelming in a way, just heartwarming, and it just makes me feel really good that he’s able to even get the word out,” Hall-Haley said.
Durham Rescue Mission is located at 1201 E Main St, Durham, NC 27701 and can be reached at 919-688-9641.
