NC State redshirt sophomore guard Dereon Seabron has played his final game in a Wolfpack uniform. Seabron is staying in the NBA Draft, Jeff Goodman confirmed.

Seabron worked out for the Orlando Magic last week, who have two second round picks. Prior to his participation at the NBA Draft Combine, Seabron had workouts with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Detroit Pistons and Brooklyn Nets.

Seabron was second-team All-ACC last season. He led NC State in scoring (17.3 points), rebounding (8.2 boards), assists (102) and steals (44). His 12 double-doubles were the second most in the ACC.

His decision was the final anticipated one among potential returning players. NC State freshman guard Terquavion Smith also entered the NBA Draft, but Smith, who had some projections of being a potential first-round draft pick, decided to return to NC State.

Most mock projections have Seabron going in the second round, if he is drafted. On3 called Seabron one of the winners of the NBA Draft combine:

“During the games is when his unique abilities showed. Seabron played primarily on the ball, and he lived in the paint. He showed he could make a play in the paint as well, whether finishing at the rim, drawing the foul, or creating for a teammate. Seabron averaged 16 points through the two scrimmages finishing 11-18 from the field. His energy was infectious as he also added ten rebounds, five assists, and two steals.”

Seabron is a redshirt sophomore, but he is four years removed from graduating in high school. Seabron spent a year in prep school and then used a redshirt for academic reasons his first year in Raleigh.

His departure leaves NC State with an open scholarship available for next season. The Wolfpack hosted Campbell transfer Cedric Henderson Jr. on an official visit over the weekend.

The 6-foot-6 Henderson averaged 13.7 points and 4.8 rebounds per game over his three seasons at Campbell. He made 38 of 100 threes last season and had a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds at Duke this past year. Henderson also had 20 points and 11 rebounds at Virginia Commonwealth, who made the second round of the NIT.

NC State’s roster currently sits at 11 scholarship players after Seabron’s departure. The Pack is limited to 12 because of a scholarship reduction penalty from the Dennis Smith Jr. case.

Seabron is the fourth player off the NC State roster to either transfer or the NBA Draft.

Redshirt junior center Manny Bates decided to transfer and committed to Butler. That followed sophomore guard Cam Hayes choosing to leave NC State and sophomore forward Jaylon Gibson going into the portal. Hayes picked LSU as his new school while Gibson is headed to Winston-Salem State.

In addition, fifth-year senior guard Thomas Allen decided to use an super senior year available to him and transferred to Ball State.
