Class of 2024 offensive tackle Deryc Plazz.

Deryc Plazz has narrowed his decision down to two schools. The top priority offensive tackle prospect will announce his commitment to either NC State or Miami Friday, July 7, he told TheWolfpacker.com Saturday morning.

After committing to Penn State following an official visit in early June, he reponed his recruitment and began to focus on the pair of ACC programs. He took trips to both schools later that month and now feels ready to choose his collegiate home.

NC State made a great impression on his official visit. Following the trip, he named the Wolfpack the leader of his recruitment.

“Right now, NC State has jumped back in front,” Plazz said June 25.

He originally planned on announcing his decision Sept. 23 but has now moved that timeline up.

Plazz was the first recruit to receive an offer from offensive line coach Garett Tujague after the Wolfpack assistant moved from UVA to NC State. His bond with the rising senior dates back to his tenure with the Cavaliers, and he continued to grow that bond once arriving in Raleigh.

The Jacksonville (Fla.) Andrew Jackson High offensive lineman enjoyed the chance to strengthen that relationship during his weekend on campus.

“I don’t think me and coach Tujague can get any closer…It was like going to see a best friend,” Plazz said.

A chance for early playing time is also a significant factor that is working in the Wolfpack’s favor.

“The opportunity is definitely there,” Plazz said. “There’s not a promised starting job, but he has a blueprint for that to happen.”

NC State offensive linemen Lyndon Cooper, Rylan Vann, Jacarrius Peak and Anthony Belton all hosted Plazz on his official visit, which was his fifth time on campus this year. According to the On3 Database, he has visited the Wolfpack more than any other program.

He visited Miami June 16-18 and left that trip with the Hurricanes at the top of his recruitment, and this remains a very close race.

“Coach Cristobal, he said I’m wanted at The U, they have big plans for me and they can help me accomplish the big plans they have,” Plazz told CaneSport. “He’s a big family guy but also cares about his players, cares about them as his own sons. He treats everyone with care, makes sure everyone is straight and achieves their goals.”

Plazz is the No. 905 recruit in the country, the No. 62 offensive tackle and the No. 126 prospect in Florida. He also holds offers from Florida State, Kentucky and others.
