NC State basketball’s roster for 2022-23 received a needed boost of height Monday afternoon with the addition of Utah transfer Dusan Mahorcic.

The 6-foot-10, 225-pound Mahorcic is well-traveled.

The Serbia native started his career at a NAIA school (Lewis University) before moving on to a junior college (Moberly Area). That led to a scholarship at the mid-major level of Division I college basketball, Illinois State.

There, Mahorcic averaged 9.9 points and 7.2 rebounds per game while shooting 59.1 percent from the field against a schedule made entirely of Missouri Valley Conference opponents.

Mahorcic entered the transfer portal after that season to multiple Power Five options and chose Utah. However, it was not a smooth transition. Mahorcic averaged 5.5 points and 4.1 rebounds in 13 games, shooting 42.1 percent.

Arizona State was also linked to Mahorcic, in addition to NC State.

Mahorcic becomes the third transfer addition thus far of the offseason for NC State, joining La Salle redshirt junior forward Jack Clark and Ole Miss senior guard Jarkel Joiner.

Joiner was the first of the three to commit.

The 6-foot-8, 200-pound Clark is from Cheltenham, Pa., and he contributed 12.0 points and 5.8 rebounds per contest last season. He had three games of at least 20 points, including in two of his last three contests. He had a season-high 30 points to go with eight rebounds in a win over Duquesne.

Joiner announced a day after Clark’s decision.

Joiner is a native of Oxford, Miss., and he returned home to play at Ole Miss for two seasons after beginning his career at Cal State Bakersfield. He was a first-team All-WAC selection as a sophomore, averaging 15.6 points a contest, before leaving for the SEC.

He was the Rebels’ leading scorer last year, averaging 13.2 points per game and is considered a strong defender in the backcourt. Joiner averaged 3.0 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game along with 2.3 assists.

His season-high came when he scored 33 points at home against Alabama, a NCAA Tournament team. Joiner also had 20 points in a win over Memphis, another squad that played in the Big Dance.

Mahorcic adds much needed size after NC State basketball lost redshirt junior center Manny Bates to the transfer portal and had On3 Consensus four-star signing Shawn Phillips Jr. released from his letter of intent.
