Charlotte Christian running back Kyron Jones is having a great senior season and is receiving national attention as a result. After picking up prestigious offers from all over the country this week, Jones shut down his recruitment and committed to the Wolfpack Saturday morning.

He picked NC State despite recent offers from Notre Dame, Miami and Kentucky. After officially visiting UConn and NC State over the past month, Jones decided to make his decision official and join Pack23. Jones had picked up an offer from NC State in June after impressing the coaches during a camp.

Over the next three months, he visited NC State 4 more times, including a stop in Raleigh for the Alpha Wolf Showcase and an official visit to see the Wolfpack compete against Texas Tech. Running backs coach Kurt Roper and receivers coach Joker Phillips have both been recruiting the running back.

Jones built a great relationship with Roper from the start of the summer into the fall.

“He knows a lot about the game and, also, he’s a good person,” Jones said at Alpha Wolf in July. “I’m learning that, the more times I’m with him and talking to him, he’s just a great guy to be around, and I enjoy talking with him.”

Academics are extremely important to Jones, who has an impressive list of Ivy League offers, he appreciated how the Wolfpack values education.

“Their plan is to get you graduated in three-and-a-half years, just in-case you want to go to the draft or something like that,” Jones said. “And I just like how they put a lot of emphasis on the school part of it, because you can’t let football take advantage of you. You have to take advantage of it by getting an education from it, and I think [NC State is] a really good place that lets you do that.”

Five games into his senior season, Jones is averaging 14.3 yards-per-carry, taking 48 carries for 697 yards and 9 touchdowns. He’s also added 12 receptions for 160 yards and 3 more scores. His red-hot start to the fall led to a surge of scholarship offers from Kentucky, Miami and Notre Dame over the past week.

Jones is an elite athlete on the track. Last year, he ran a state-title winning 10.6 100-meter dash— a NCISAA State Meet record despite running into a headwind.

The Charlotte Christian athlete’s speed and explosiveness additionally showed up during combine testing at NC State in June. He ran a 4.5 40-yard dash, broad jumped 10-3 and recorded a 35.3-inch vertical jump. In addition to his on-the-field skills, Jones has a 3.8 GPA according to his Twitter bio.

The running back is rated by On3 as a 3-star prospect, the nation’s No. 33 running back and the No. 18 recruit in North Carolina’s 2023 class. He has more than 20 Division-I scholarship offers and is the 13th member of the Pack’s recruiting class.
