When The Wolfpacker visited Providence Day this summer, head coach Chad Grier touted Jordan Shipp’s skill set and lengthy wingspan that leads to super impressive catches. He put those abilities on display during last week’s game against Christ School, showing why NC State is making the three-star receiver a priority.

The class of 2024 athlete is putting together another impressive season, and his recruitment continues to blow up as a result. Shipp is hearing from a ton of schools right now. So many, in fact, that his phone stopped working after messages from college coaches overwhelmed it Sept. 1.

“Coming from being injured and nobody knowing who I am, to junior year, September 1, me not even being able to unlock my phone because my phone is frozen,” Jordan Shipp said. “It’s just crazy how fast everything can change just over what pretty much one season.”

NC State remains one of the schools most consistently involved in his recruitment. He visited Raleigh in June for a camp and returned for the Alpha Wolf Showcase.

“I’ve been talking to them at least once or twice a week,” Shipp said.

So far this fall, Shipp visited North Carolina for its season opener and NC State for the Texas Tech game. During that trip, which he took with high school teammate and three-star wide receiver Channing Goodwin, Shipp got an inside look into the Pack’s game day operations.

The two Providence Day stars followed the team through its preparations for the week-three showdown, and that left an impression.

“It was actually cool,” Shipp said. “I never expected anybody to let us see the game script before the game. And, also, they let us see the whole day. We saw how everything works. We saw everything behind the scenes before the game. It was very fun.”

Shipp also spent a lot of time with class of 2023 four-star safety commit Zack Myers, who he competed against last Friday.

“I spent a lot of time with Zack up there,” Shipp said. “Just spend a lot of time chilling with him, talking about this game. But it was really fun. It was very fun.”

“Me and Zack are close,” Shipp said. “That’s somebody I’ll call my brother for sure. I’m going to be honest, during the game, we’re having full blown conversations. We’re just having fun. We’re aiming for each other, just having fun.”

NC State and North Carolina have both done a great job of building a relationship with Shipp and are impressing him with their play on the field.

“Them being local schools, of course, and they’re balling right now,” Shipp said. “Both schools are balling right now. I can see both of them finishing top 20. It’s a great school I want to be a part of.”

He has a great bond already with Wolfpack assistant coach Joker Phillips, who talks to the receiver’s parents frequently as well.

Shipp hopes to take another visit to NC State at some point this fall. In addition to potential trips to Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Clemson and Penn State, the receiver has three more visits lined up.

“I’ll be going back to State, and I’ll be going to UNC again too,” Shipp said. “And I’m going to go to Michigan.”

Shipp did confirm that a small group of schools are separating themselves from the rest right now, but he did not share which ones. The receiver is the No. 335 prospect nationally according to the On3 Consensus and the No. 7 recruit in North Carolina’s junior class. NC State leads his Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) at 43.7 percent.
