NC State basketball may have found a candidate to take the last available roster spot. The Wolfpack has one more scholarship it can use for the 2020-21 season, and Boise State senior wing Emmanuel Akot is expected to visit Raleigh by week’s end.

According to The Stadium’s Jeff Goodman, Akot is also visiting Memphis today after checking out Western Kentucky on Tuesday. The trio of schools have emerged as Akot’s top three choices, per Goodman. The trip to Raleigh is anticipated to happen later this week.

Akot (6-foot-8, 210 pounds) averaged 10.8 points and 3.1 rebounds while playing 31.8 minutes per game in 31 contests this past season. He shot career-bests 40.0 percent from the field and 38.7 percent on three-pointers, making 55 of 142 shots from beyond the arc.

The Winnipeg native was a five-star prospect in the 2017 class and began his career at Arizona, where he played two years before transferring to Boise State. After sitting out a season, Akot averaged 8.8 points and 3.0 rebounds in year one for the Broncos.

This past season, Akot helped Boise State reach the NCAA Tournament. He had seven points in a first round loss to Memphis. During the Broncos’ run to the Mountain West Conference Tournament title, Akot averaged 14.3 points and 4.3 rebounds over three games.

One of the teams that Boise State played during the regular season was Ole Miss, a 60-50 win for the Broncos in which Akot had seven points and two rebounds. Current NC State basketball assistant Levi Watkins was on the Ole Miss bench for that game.

NC State has already added four transfers from the portal during the offseason: Winthrop post player D.J. Burns Jr., Utah post Dusan Mahorcic, Ole Miss guard Jarkel Joiner and La Salle forward Jack Clark. All four are redshirt seniors, although Burns and Clark each have two seasons of eligibility remaining because COVID-19 froze eligibility during the 2020-21 season.

On Wednesday during his summer press conference, NC State basketball coach Kevin Keatts hinted that the Pack would use the last available scholarship if the correct fit was found.

Apparently Akot falls into that category.

“We’re trying to figure out where to go with that,” Keatts added. “We’ve got some good pieces. We’re going to be very patient in figuring that out. I know that’s weird because I’m telling you to be patient in the middle of June, but we’re not the only program that has a scholarship or two available.

“We just want the right fit. If we can find the right fit, then obviously we’ll bring someone in.”
