Welcoming Ethan McDowell to The Wolfpacker staff

The Wolfpacker team is excited to announce it has expanded. Ethan McDowell has joined the staff on a full-time basis, starting this week and is hitting the ground running. Ethan is a Blacksburg, Va., native who is set to wrap up his undergraduate degree at Emerson this fall.
Already, Ethan visited Rolesville (N.C.) High Tuesday morning at 9 a.m., and he is planning more trips throughout the state. Ethan has also talked to multiple top out-of-state targets.
The Wolfpacker has added a great addition to the site, and as we expand and increase our coverage, now is a good time to remind all fans of our best deal ever — a year’s subscription for just $1.
A note from Ethan McDowell:
Joining The Wolfpacker and On3 Sports might be the easiest decision I have ever made.
Covering the ACC has been a dream of mine since I was a little kid. I grew up in Blacksburg, Va., and my family had season tickets for Virginia Tech men’s basketball games directly behind the press row. I always admired the work those writers did and, when I left home for college in Boston three years ago, I was determined to join them.
Now, I’m thrilled to join Matt Carter and the rest of the On3, Wolfpacker and Coman Publishing staffs as a staff writer dedicated to covering the Wolfpack. The past three years of my life have been devoted to high school and college sports reporting — most recently with The Boston Globe.
During the summer of 2020, I started a college football recruiting blog called Virginia to Virginia Recruiting with a close friend. We quickly grew the website into an impressive product that caught traction throughout the state. Those summer months helped ignite a passion for recruiting reporting that I am absolutely thrilled to bring to The Wolfpacker.
Growing up as an avid ACC sports fan, I always had tremendous respect for NC State and its extremely passionate fanbase. I’m incredibly excited to start creating relationships with coaches and athletes throughout the state of North Carolina and beyond.
Ryan Tice and Matt have helped me hit the ground running this week, so watch out for a few stories in the next couple of days. To Ryan, Matt and Stu Coman, thank you for taking a chance on a 21-year-old who hasn’t graduated college yet. I hope I’m properly conveying how excited I am to be here.

To the NC State fanbase, I want to hear from all of you! What kind of stories are you looking for? Is there any recruiting-specific content that you’d like to see over the next couple of months? What can I do to help make sure we’re giving you the best possible coverage of the Wolfpack?
I’m joining The Wolfpacker before what could be one of the most exciting football seasons in the program’s history in the midst of what seems like a crucial turning point in college sports. I’m ready to get to work and continue to put this website and magazine at the forefront of North Carolina State coverage.
In addition to my presence on the website and the message boards, I’ll be sharing information through my twitter @ethanmmdowell. If any of you have any questions about my role here, what coverage we have coming up or if you just want to talk about NC State sports, my DM’s are open, and my email is [email protected].
Thank you for all of your support in advance. Let’s get started!
A note from Matt Carter
We were very fortunate to have some several qualified candidates interview for the position when we posted its availability. Ethan’s experience at such a young age and passion for recruiting and college sports coverage was evident from the first interview.
After a second conversation with Ethan, we knew he was ready for the job.
Ethan clearly has done his homework — on the staff he was joining, the future of On3 and — most importantly — NC State athletics. When going over the NC State football recruiting board with him on his first day, in a lot of cases I felt like I was telling Ethan information he already knew.
His enthusiasm is contagious. His knowledge of recruiting is obvious. His preparations for the job is impressive.
A final reminder that now is a good time to sign up for our best deal ever — a year’s subscription for just $1.
