Florida State transfer F Jerry Deng commits to NC State

NC State coach Will Wade continues to build his roster for the 2025-26 season. His latest addition? Florida State transfer forward Jerry Deng.
The 6-foot-9, 220-pound forward projects to play the four with the Wolfpack as he has an intriguing ability to stretch the floor as a career 38 percent 3-point shooter. He has made at least 43 triples in each of his first two seasons of college basketball, averaging 3.6 attempts a night.
An athletic forward, Deng fits what NC State is looking to build through the transfer portal. His length can cause issues for teams on the perimeter as he can guard nearly every position on the floor.
Deng averaged 7.0 points with 1.9 rebounds and 0.5 assists on 43.4 percent shooting this past season with the Seminoles. As a role player off the bench, Deng was able to score in double figures 10 times, highlighted by a 16-point effort with four made 3-pointers in a 96-85 loss to UNC on Feb. 24, during his one-year stint with the Seminoles.
Before Deng arrived in the ACC, he spent his freshman season at Hampton, where he was impressive. He averaged 10.1 points with 4.2 rebounds, while he logged a 46 percent clip from the field and was 39.1 percent beyond the 3-point line. He garnered transfer portal interest from Auburn, LSU, Georgetown, Georgia Tech and Florida last offseason before he picked the Seminoles.

Deng, who was born in Rochester, N.Y., played most of his high school basketball at Norcross (Ga.) High, where he was an all-state honorable mention as a senior. He was a three-star recruit out of high school and committed to Hampton over the likes of Akron, East Carolina, Georgetown and Florida International.
NC State has five scholarships available for the 2025-26 campaign. Langdon joins McNeese guards Alyn Breed and Quadir Copeland, Michigan State guard Tre Holloman and Butler transfer forward Colt Langdon as the Wolfpack’s first four portal pickups of the offseason.
The Pack also garnered a commitment from Tampa (Fla.) Sagemont Prep four-star guard Matt Able, while retaining Arden (N.C.) Christ School Mikey Wilkins’ commitment. Sophomore guard Paul McNeil Jr., meanwhile, is the only returning scholarship player from last year’s squad.
