Former NC State C Dylan McMahon signs with Los Angeles Rams
After being drafted with the 191st overall pick by the Philadelphia Eagles, former NC State center Dylan McMahon was placed on the team’s practice squad after the preseason. But now, he will be on an active roster after he signed with the Los Angeles Rams on Tuesday, according to his agent, Whitney Holtzman.
McMahon appeared in all three Eagles preseason games during training camp, including starting the final game against the Minnesota Vikings. The center logged 157 total snaps in the appearances, according to Pro Football Focus, and he allowed just two quarterback pressures over that period.
The Savannah, Ga., native will provide depth at center for the Rams, who lost starter Steve Avila to injury in the season opener and he is expected to be out for the next four to six weeks. That opened up a roster spot for McMahon, who will make his active roster debut this week as the Rams prepare to play the Arizona Cardinals.
McMahon had a breakout season with the Wolfpack last year with just 11 pressures (1 sack, 1 hit and 9 hurries) allowed in 345 pass-blocking opportunities. After he turned that season in, he decided to forgo his final year of collegiate eligibility and enter the NFL draft. He was selected in the sixth round by Philadelphia.
The Athletic’s Dane Brugler projected McMahon as a seventh-round selection in his top-300 draft preview.

Analyst calls out Kentucky fans
“McMahon doesn’t have desirable physical dimensions and is likely a center only in the NFL, but he is unencumbered with his movements and well-versed with his technique, giving him a chance to find a home in a zone-based scheme,” Brugler wrote.
McMahon posted the second-fastest three-cone drill of any offensive lineman in attendance with a 7.26 performance. His 9-foot-7 broad jump was the fourth-best, while his 4.45 time in the 20-yard shuttle was the fourth-fastest among the offensive linemen.
McMahon’s shuttle time is notable when compared to past NFL Combine performances. Underdog Fantasy’s Josh Norris researched that since 2010, only 28 offensive linemen have logged a 4.47 shuttle or better at the combine. Of that group, 24 were drafted, all of which went on to start 84 percent of their NFL games.
He also posted a 5.10 40-yard dash time in front of all 32 NFL scouts, the 20th-fastest time of the 49 offensive linemen that ran in the event at the combine.
McMahon was the 29th draft pick that NC State coach Dave Doeren has churned out since taking over the Wolfpack program in 2013.
