Georgia State safety transfer Jeremiah Johnson commits to NC State
NC State picked up a transfer portal commitment from Jeremiah Johnson Friday evening. The former Georgia State and junior college safety will spend his final season of eligibility with the Wolfpack, he announced on social media.
Johnson, a 5-11, 192-pound defensive back, committed to the program after an official visit earlier this week. He was a College Football Network All-Sun Belt third team selection this fall and made the official all-conference team in 2023 as an honorable mention. Georgia Tech and Vanderbilt also offered the portal prospect.
The defensive back projects as a safety for the Wolfpack after he recorded a career-high 69 total tackles (38 solo, 1 for loss) and 6 defended passes as a senior with Georgia State. Johnson finished the 2024 season with a 71.0 Pro Football Focus (PFF) grade after starting every game and playing 743 snaps.
The Pack commit saw snaps at both safety spots but spent most of his time in the box or in the slot. Johnson was also a major special teams contributor. PFF graded him as a very solid run defender with a 73.2 mark in that area. He recorded 16 “Stops,” which are tackles that lead to a failure for the offense.

He spent several seasons with the Panthers, appearing in at least 11 games in each of the three. Hailing from Anguilla, Mississippi, Johnson started out his career at Mississippi Delta Community College. In his first season at Georgia State, he moved from cornerback to safety in the middle of the year.
His career started to take off from there. Johnson intercepted 2 passes, recovered 2 fumbles and made 61 total tackles (3.5 for loss) during his second season in the Sun Belt, picking up all-conference honors.
Johnson is the ninth transfer portal commit of the 2025 cycle and the third defensive back alongside Missouri freshman Jaren Sensabaugh and Temple junior Jamel Johnson. He is the first safety pledge of the cycle and help bolsters a room that lost both of its projected 2025 starters after senior Bishop Fitzgerald and graduate Devan Boykin entered the transfer portal.
