NC State entered the offseason in need of a third baseman after Alec Makarewicz’s eligibility expired in Omaha. It took just 10 days to find his likely replacement as Georgia Tech third baseman Ryan Jaros committed to NC State on Thursday night, he told TheWolfpacker.com.

Jaros, a rising sophomore, hit .343 with four doubles, a home run and eight RBI in 26 appearances this past season with the Yellow Jackets. He made 11 starts en route to a .511 on-base percentage with 10 walks and 11 strikeouts in Atlanta.

Before he enrolled at Georgia Tech, Jaros was among the best prep third basemen in the country. He was the No. 6 high school third baseman in the country and was the No. 4 overall recruit in New Jersey at Cranford High, according to Perfect Game.

During Jaros’ illustrious prep career, he helped guide Cranford to the 2020 state championship, as well as the 2022 sectional title and the 2022 and 2023 county championships. He was a three-time first team all-state third baseman, awarded by NJ.com, during his career.

Jaros finished his high school career with 100 career hits in 213 at-bats. While he at Cranford, Jaros was teammates with current NC State reliever Shane Van Dam, reuniting with the right-hander in Raleigh.

That duo continues a Cranford to NC State pipeline, which previously started with pitchers Rob Chamra and Andrew Ciencin.

The corner infielder is the Wolfpack’s third transfer portal pickup of the offseason. NC State earned commitments from Campbell outfielder Dalen Thompson and UNC Greensboro right-handed pitcher Julien Peissel earlier this month.
