How NC State’s safety room evolved through the transfer portal
A year ago, NC State’s safety room was ravaged by injury. Starter Jakeen Harris suffered a season-ending injury in the team’s season opener at UConn. Reserve Rakeim Ashford suffered a concussion in the same game, and later a season-ending leg injury against Marshall five weeks later. The Wolfpack deployed a wide array of safeties last fall, but now it has an even deeper position group after it added a trio through the transfer portal. NC State bolstered its secondary by adding Auburn’s Donovan Kaufman in February before Akron’s Kerry Martin Jr. and Ohio State’s Ja’Had Carter both pledged their commitments to the Pack this week. NC State’s secondary will have a new look in 2024 and the transfers will likely make a significant impact. Here’s how the Pack’s safety group evolved into a new iteration of ballhawks through the transfer portal going into a campaign with high expectations.
