Instant observations: NC State races past Louisville to open ACC play
After NC State logged just a pair of assists in its tight win over Davidson on Thursday night at Reynolds Coliseum, Wolfpack coach Wes Moore put it bluntly — his team was going to lean on what worked to win the game. In that one, it was feeding senior guards Aziaha James and Saniya Rivers, who scored at will against the Atlantic 10 foe. But when the Wolfpack arrived at Louisville on Sunday afternoon, it shared the ball and shot an extremely high clip from the field as NC State opened ACC play with a _-_ win over the Cardinals at the KFC Yum! Center in the Jimmy V Women’s Classic. The Pack finished the afternoon with a 43.9% shooting clip from the field, including seven made 3-pointers and 14 total assists, while its defense limited the Cardinals to just a 23.9% mark. Freshman guard Zamareya Jones exploded for a career-best 18 points on 7-of-7 shooting, while Rivers added 14 points and 13 rebounds for her second straight double-double, and James chipped in with 11 to help NC State past Louisville on the road. Here are three observations from the Wolfpack’s ACC-opening win over the Cardinals.
