Instant observations: No. 9 NC State rolls past Wake Forest in dominant Senior Night effort

Aziaha James isn’t one to let a couple missed shots mess with her confidence. It didn’t matter that her first two shots — both 3-pointers — were off the mark against Wake Forest, NC State’s senior guard was going to keep shooting. Luckily for the Wolfpack, that was a good thing. Not only did the senior continue to pull the trigger from all over the court, James found her groove soon after and outscored the Demon Deacons by herself in the second quarter. In what was her final true home game inside Reynolds Coliseum, James propelled the Pack to a 78-57 win with a team-best 21 points on Wednesday night. James’ red-hot shooting included a 6-for-13 mark from the field in the first half while she logged six total made triples to pass current Pack assistant Ashley Williams for eighth on the all-time made 3-point list in program history. James also collected three rebounds and dished four assists in NC State’s landslide victory over Wake Forest. In addition to the Virginia Beach, Va., native’s scoring punch, sophomore guard Zoe Brooks added 17 and senior guard Madison Hayes chipped in with 14. The Wolfpack, which continues to hold its spot as the ACC’s No. 2 seed with one regular season game to play, picked up its 15th league win of the year — just the second such time by a Wes Moore-coached squad in his 12 seasons at the helm of the program. Here are three observations from the Wolfpack’s rout over the Demon Deacons.
