One of the best linebackers in NC State football history is back in the Murphy Center. Isaiah Moore recently joined the staff as a recruiting assistant, a source confirmed Friday morning.

After spending parts of this fall with the Kansas City Chiefs, the former Wolfpack linebacker is back with the team in a part-time recruiting role. He played six seasons at NC State, winning all-conference awards and racking up 341 tackles.

Moore also wore the coveted No. 1 jersey for three-consecutive seasons and frequently garnered the praise of head coach Dave Doeren for the example he set on the field and in the locker room. Away from the Wolfpack, Moore helped coach Cardinal Gibbons High’s football team.

“Isaiah means a lot more than football to this program with his leadership — three-time captain, wearing No. 1 three years in a row, Pack United, starting that not with just the team but the athletic department and the campus,” Doeren said prior to Moore’s senior day last year. “And just the type of human being he is. A high school coach in the area, he’s done a lot. A lot of college kids don’t have any idea what he’s done.

“We respect him. I think that’s one thing I’ve told him before. I look up to him. He’s a guy that’s a true role model.”

The linebacker was also a finalist for the Wooden Citizenship Cup last year. Per GoPack.com, that is an honor “given to a male and female collegiate athlete from any sport who best displays character, teamwork, and citizenship.”

Over the course of his Wolfpack career, Moore recorded more than 80 total tackles twice, finishing his career with 11.5 sacks, 43.5 tackles for loss, 1 interception, 1 forced fumble and 2 fumble recoveries.

The linebacker’s tackle total ranks No. 11 in NC State history. After coming back from a season-ending knee injury during the 2021 season, Moore took home the Ken McNeill Iron Wolf Award in 2022 for the team’s “top comeback from injury.” He was the program’s starting MIKE linebacker for five seasons after joining the Pack prior to the 2017 season.

“I came here as a 17-year old kid, and Coach Thunder [Dantonio Burnette], Coach [Dave] Doeren, Coach Hux [Dave Huxtable] when he was here and Coach [Tony] Gibson, they’ve really worked hands-on with me,” Moore said after his Pro Day earlier this year. “They’ve built me from the ground up.

“I owe a tremendous amount of my success to NC State.”
