Jarkel Joiner decides to transfer from Ole Miss to NC State
NC State basketball needed some help for its backcourt next season, and the Wolfpack received some when Ole Miss senior guard Jarkel Joiner announced that he was transferring to NC State.
Joiner officially entered the transfer portal last week, ending speculation about his plans after also putting his name in the NBA Draft process.
The Oxford, Miss., native returned home to play at Ole Miss for two seasons after beginning his career at Cal State Bakersfield. He was a first-team All-WAC selection as a sophomore, averaging 15.6 points a contest, before leaving for the SEC.
He was the Rebels’ leading scorer last year, averaging 13.2 points per game and is considered a strong defender in the backcourt. Joiner averaged 3.0 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game along with 2.3 assists.

His season-high came when he scored 33 points at home against Alabama, a NCAA Tournament team. Joiner also had 20 points in a win over Memphis, another squad that played in the Big Dance.
Former Ole Miss assistant Levi Watkins is now in Raleigh, which may explain how NC State was able to move quickly with Joiner once he entered the portal.
Joiner was rated by On3 as the No. 9 shooting guard available in the portal.
