NC State football head coach Dave Doeren is headed into season No. 11 as the leader of the Wolfpack and sits on the verge of becoming the program’s all-time winningest head coach.
Going into the 2023 season, On3 ranked the ACC head coaches and sorted them into three categories based on how much pressure they are under this season— high, medium and low.
Doeren ended up in the latter category and, according to On3’s Jesse Simonton, he has the fifth-safest job in the conference.
“He has a young team this season, and despite bringing in a new OC and former Virginia quarterback Brennan Armstrong, expectations are lower than in past seasons,” Simonton wrote.
“Doeren is five wins short of setting a new school record, so barring a complete meltdown season, his position in Raleigh is secure until he either does get the program over the hump or ultimately leaves for a fresh start.”

NC State quote of the day
This quote is from top receiver target Alex Taylor discussing Doeren’s recruiting pitch for him.
“Coach Doeren told me, basically, it’s a great time to be an outside receiver getting recruited by NC State,” Taylor said. “They’re taking three receivers in this class, and he was saying that they definitely need some guys outside, and I can come in and make an impact right away.”
