NC State coach Dave Doeren added a pair of familiar faces to his staff as the Wolfpack prepares for the 2025 campaign.

The Pack hired Zac Roper as a special teams quality control coach, while former NC State nickel Nick Treco will serve as a defensive graduate assistant with the defensive backs.

Roper, who is the younger brother of offensive coordinator Kurt Roper, enters his second stint with the Wolfpack. He previously worked on Doeren’s staff during the 2022 season as an offensive analyst.

Roper also brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the NC State program. He was most recently the special teams coordinator and tight ends coach at Florida International for the past two seasons, while he was Duke’s offensive coordinator from 2016-20. Roper spent a total of 13 seasons with the Blue Devils as he was the team’s special teams coordinator for a decade and also coached running backs, tight ends and quarterbacks during his time in Durham.

In addition to his experience at Duke, Roper was also Cornell’s special teams coordinator for three seasons. Prior to that, he was a graduate assistant at Oklahoma and Ole Miss.

This will mark the fourth stint that the Roper brothers have served on the same staff. They overlapped at both Ole Miss and Duke on David Cutcliffe’s staff and at NC State in 2022.

While Roper is joining the staff as a coaching veteran, Treco is beginning his path in the industry. The Charlotte native was a walk-on as he played both wide receiver and nickel during his five-year playing career with the Wolfpack.

Treco played mostly on special teams and was NC State’s defensive scout team player of the year during the 2022 season. He graduated with a master’s from NC State in December and will now kick off his coaching career with the Wolfpack.
