NC State is riding a two-game losing streak, both by one score, while Cal has lost its last three games by a total of 7 points. Both squads are winless in ACC play and one of them will enter the win column for the first time in league play this weekend.

NC State at Cal notes
– This will be NC State’s first game played in the state of California since it lost at UCLA in 1960. The Pack has not played west of the Mississippi River since it beat Texas Tech in overtime during the 2002 season.
– Freshman quarterback CJ Bailey became the first true freshman in program history to throw for more than 300 yards in a game against Syracuse since Philip Rivers did it in 2000. Rivers did it four times in his first season of college football.
– NC State is one of two FBS programs to not allow a kickoff return this season. Kicker Collin Smith has booted 38 touchbacks this season — all but one into the end zone. Arizona is the only other program to not allow a return this fall.
