NC State’s 2024 football team received a major boost Thursday morning. Star Wolfpack cornerback Aydan White announced he plans on returning to the program for another season.

The two-time All-ACC defender declared his intention to transfer Jan. 2. After spending just over a week in the portal, the defensive back announced on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, that he will withdraw and play his fifth and final season of college football with the Pack.

“I’ve got one more year in me,” White said. “Let’s do it.”

During the 2023 season, White frequently guarded the opposing team’s top wide receiver. He recorded a career high 10 defended passes, 37 total tackles, 2 interceptions and a sack.

When the news officially broke, Noah Fleischman and Ethan McDowell sat down to record another emergency episode of The Wolfpacker Show, breaking down the impact of White’s decision, their reaction to the news and more.

In this episode, the hosts discussed:

*** Their instant reactions to the breaking news. White’s decision to enter the portal was a surprise, and his choice to withdraw was even more of a shock. Both Ethan and Noah believe this significantly raises the floor and ceiling of the Pack’s 2024 defense.

*** The hosts also talked about White’s 2023 season at NC State and his Wolfpack career overall, praising his performance against Wake Forest last fall, when the cornerback held Jahmal Banks, the Demon Deacons’ leading receiver, to 0 receptions.

*** Noah and Ethan then broke down the program’s newfound depth at cornerback. White’s decision to return turns cornerback from a a question mark to a strength in the Pack defense.

*** NC State also brought in two transfers to bolster the position this year— Devon Marshall and Corey Coley. The hosts shared their thoughts on both portal additions to the program and explained why at least four players will be competing for the second starting cornerback spot this year.

*** To wrap up the emergency show, Noah and Ethan each gave their take on how White’s return impacts the 2024 season’s outlook. Both hosts are growing increasingly optimistic about the program’s chances to compete for an ACC championship this fall and possibly end up in the expanded College Football Playoff.
