NC State baseball suffered an untimely sweep at home to Wake Forest over the weekend. The Pack fell to 33-20 overall on the season and finished 14-15 in the ACC. The result also dropped NC State to the No. 10 seed in next week’s ACC Tournament.

The 2022 ACC Baseball Championship is May 24-29 in Charlotte at Truist Field.

The 12 qualifying teams are divided into four pools:

Pool A: No. 1, 8 and 12 seed

Pool B: No. 2, 7 and 11 seed

Pool C: No. 3, 6 and 10 seed

Pool D: No. 4, 5 and 9 seed

The pools play round-robin games. The team with the best record emerges into the semifinals, with the Pool A and D winners playing in game one and Pool B and C winners in the second.

Being one of the top four seeds is a distinct advantage, automatically winning the tiebreaker if the teams tie 1-1 in pool play.

Here is a breakdown of the draw for NC State baseball and the other teams that qualified.

Pool A:

1 seed Virginia Tech (19-9) — By sweeping Duke, the Hokies completed their dominating rise to the top of the conference. VT won its last eight multiple-games ACC series, including taking two of three from NC State baseball in Blacksburg, Va.

8 seed North Carolina (15-15) — Rallying in game three to take the series against NC State baseball in Raleigh proved to be a spark for the Heels. UNC would win its last three ACC series and wrapped up the regular season with a home sweep of Florida State. Virginia Tech took two of three from UNC in Chapel Hill.

12 seed Clemson (13-16) — The Tigers handled business against last-place Boston College with a sweep over the weekend to ensure the final spot in the tournament. NC State won a series at Clemson during the season. The Tigers did not play either of VT or UNC.

Pool B:

2 seed Louisville (18-11-1) — The Cards, who won two of three over NC State at home, took a weekend series against Virginia this weekend to rise to the No. 2 spot by clinching the Atlantic Division title.

7 seed Georgia Tech (15-15) — The streaky Yellow Jackets, who was swept in Raleigh by NC State baseball, finished off a road sweep at Pittsburgh, dashing the Panthers’ at-large hopes for the NCAA Tournament and also improving GT’s seeding in the ACC Tournament. Georgia Tech and Louisville did not compete in the regular season.

11 seed Pittsburgh (13-16) — Fresh off being swept at home by the Jackets, Pitt can get some revenge in Charlotte. The Panthers can also take some confidence by having taken two of three at home against Louisville earlier in the season.

NC State baseball is in Pool C:

3 seed Miami (20-10) — While Virginia Tech caught the Hurricanes at the end of the year in percentage points, no team in the conference won more ACC games than Miami. The Canes had the second best winning percentage in the league overall (Louisville receives the two seed by winning the Atlantic Division).

The Hurricanes have not played either of the other teams in its pool.

6 seed Wake Forest (15-14-1) — NC State baseball will have an opportunity for revenge with the Demon Deacons landing in the same pool as the Pack.

10 seed NC State (14-15) — The Pack would ideally need a strong performance in Charlotte to avoid any low-key chatter of perhaps being on the bubble for the NCAA Tournament.

Pool D:

4 seed Notre Dame (16-11) — The Irish, who had three ACC games canceled during the regular season (including one at NC State), slipped below Louisville in the Atlantic by losing two of three at Miami over the weekend.

5 seed Virginia (17-13) — The Cavs have not played either of its opponents in the pool during the regular season.

9 seed Florida State (15-15) — The streaky Noles, who took two of three from NC State in Tallahassee, suffered a sweep at UNC over the weekend to fall to the nine seed. FSU suffered a similar fate against Notre Dame at home during the regular season.
