NC State baseball preview: Wolfpack reloads on position players going into 2025

Elliot Avent decided to use a hypothetical. If he handed each of his players a lineup card before Christmas in 2023, NC State would have likely had a uniform batch of starters from the entire roster going into the spring.  Everyone knew Jacob Cozart would start at catcher, while Garrett Pennington and Alec Makarewicz had the corner infield spots anchored and Eli Serrano III was set to move to center field.  But if they did that same exercise this past Christmas? Well, Avent believes he would have gotten 38 different lineups from his roster.  NC State lost seven of the nine starters from last season’s team that propelled the program to its second College World Series appearance in the last four seasons due to a mix of exhausted eligibility and the MLB Draft.  This year’s version of the Pack is sure to have a new look on the Doak Field diamond. While that could be a good thing for NC State in the long run, the Wolfpack will have to find new hitters in the lineup to lean on to produce runs as it didn’t return a player with more than six homers from last spring.  Expand that out to the nine transfer position players the Wolfpack acquired through the portal or junior college ranks and only junior outfielder Brayden Fraasman fits the bill with his 11 from Lincoln Trail Community College. So, yeah, it’s safe to say that NC State has plenty of competition to make the everyday lineup going into Avent’s 29th season leading the Pack.  “Right now, there’s a lot of guys out there battling for spots,” Avent told TheWolfpacker.com recently. “This is going to be a whole different team.” Here’s a look at NC State’s position players and hitters ahead of the 2025 campaign.
