NC State basketball ranked in AP top 25
For the first time this season, NC State basketball is ranked. The Wolfpack checks in at No. 22 in the updated Associated Press top 25 poll, one of three new teams to crack the list, joining Creighton and Rutgers.
NC State is 19-5 overall and 9-4 in the ACC after winning 8 of 9 games since the start of January. This past week, the Wolfpack took care of business at home, trouncing Florida State and then rallying late for a win over Georgia Tech.
The schedule gets harder Tuesday, with NC State traveling to No. 8 Virginia, who is 17-4 overall and 9-3 in the conference. The Cavaliers remain the top-rated ACC team in the AP poll. A loss at Virginia Tech, which snapped a 7-game winning streak for Virginia, cost the Wahoos two spots in the poll.
This is the first and only regular season meeting between Virginia and NC State.

The only other ranked team from the ACC is Miami at No. 19, a four-spot improvement for the Hurricanes from a week ago. NC State split a pair of games with Miami, with each team winning on their respective home court. The Wolfpack’s victory occurred in overtime.
Duke, Clemson and Pittsburgh are on the cusp of joining the ACC trio ranked. There were three of the top five vote getters beyond the teams in the top 25. NC State defeated Duke at home in lopsided fashion but lost to the other two league rivals, Clemson on the road and Pitt in Raleigh.

The Wolfpack still has games left against Clemson (home) and Duke (road) before closing out the regular season.
The only non-conference team NC State has played this year that is ranked is No. 9 Kansas, who knocked off the Wolfpack in a tight game in the Bahamas.
