NC State basketball steamrolls Boston College, 92-62
A lot of concerns going into NC State basketball’s showdown at Boston College Saturday afternoon were quickly eased in a brisk game that took less than 2 hours to complete. The last chance of a Quad 3 or worse loss, the recent struggles of super senior guard Jarkel Joiner and the prospect of a hangover after the loss at Virginia all may have given Pack fans pauses coming into the contest.
Yet, after a 92-62 win over the Eagles, the reaction from those may have been: “What were we so worried about?”
Joiner, who was 3-of-20 shooting in his prior 2 games for a combined 10 points, made 10 of 17 shots from the field Saturday, including 5 of 11 three-pointers, to score a game-high 26 points.
NC State scored the last 6 points of the first half to take a 44-32 halftime advantage and quickly worked the lead up to 20 points early in the second half.
And in the process, since the Pack’s final 5 games are all, currently, either Quad 1 or 2 contests, barring any changes in that or an upset loss in the ACC Tournament, NC State will present to the NCAA Selection Committee a team sheet void of any bad losses.
The Wolfpack started hot thanks to sophomore guard Terquavion Smith scoring the Wolfpack’s first 10 points, including a pair of three-pointers. Smith finished shooting 3 of 8 beyond the arc and 7 of 14 overall for 17 points.
Senior guard Casey Morsell went 5 of 8 on three-point attempts, and fifth-year senior forward Jack Clark, marking his return from a groin injury suffered at Clemson on Dec. 30, made a pair beyond the arc in the second half.

Overall, NC State was a blistering 15 of 30 on three-point attempts, setting a new season high on treys in a game. The Wolfpack shot 37 of 67 from the field, or 55.2%.
Wolfpack fifth-year senior center D.J. Burns Jr., was limited with a pair of first half fouls but still finished with a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds, making 9 of 15 shots from the field.
While the offense was hot, the NC State defense did a nice job turning the Eagles over, getting 17, and also holding BC to 42.6% shooting at 26 of 61. The Eagles made only 4 threes compared to the Wolfpack’s 15.
The victory at Boston College, the lone meeting between the two teams scheduled this year, improved NC State basketball to 20-6 on the year and 10-5 in the ACC. Boston College fell to 12-14 and 6-9.
Up next for the Pack will be the final trip out of the state of North Carolina until a potential NCAA Tournament berth when the Pack travels to Syracuse on Tuesday. The Valentine’s Day tip is 7 p.m. and can be seen on ACC Network.
