NC State basketball NET rankings report
The first release of the NCAA basketball NET rankings was Monday Dec. 5. The reveal shows that NC State is off to a good start, but the ACC is not. That could prove to be a challenge for league bubble teams come March.
Through games of Tuesday evening, NC State checked in at No. 52 after beginning the season 8-2 overall, including losing Friday’s ACC opener at home to Pittsburgh (which checks in at No. 78 in the NET). That setback to the Panthers is currently classified as an undesirable Quad 3 loss.
The Wolfpack thus far has had just one Quad 1 opportunity, the defeat to NET No. 18 Kansas on a neutral court.
After losing to the Jayhawks, NC State followed up with impressive wins over Butler and Dayton in the Bahamas. The former is held in high regard by the NET rankings, as Butler checks in at No. 56. Top 50 is the cutoff for neutral court Quad 1 games.
However, Dayton was surprisingly much lower at No. 159, which is a Quad 3 contest. Dayton would need to crack the top 100 of the NET to reach Quad 2.

The ACC does not, at the moment, look to offer many opportunities for NC State basketball moving forward. Currently, only six of the remaining 19 conference games are Quad 1, and another five are Quad 2.
The other eight league contests are eight Quad 3 or 4. Perhaps most embarrassing to the ACC is that Louisville ranks No. 360 in the NET, with just three teams in all of Division I college basketball lower than the Cardinals in the standings.
Six ACC teams are rated below 100 in the NET, with Florida State alarmingly low at No. 293.
