NC State basketball routed at North Carolina, 100-80 (with box score)
Saturday was a festive afternoon for North Carolina fans at the Dean Smith Center, but a long one for the NC State basketball program.
A red-hot Tar Heels squad made 15 of 27 three pointers, including 10 of 15 in the first half, and rolled over the Wolfpack, 100-80.
While four UNC players scored at least 17 points, only two NC State players had more than seven — freshman guard Terquavion Smith‘s 34 and senior forward Jericole Hellems’ 25.
On a day where UNC honored its former coach Roy Williams and had Michael Jordan in attendance while it also celebrated the 1982 NCAA champs, a fired-up North Carolina team blitzed NC State and jumped out to a 21-13 lead before it really turned up the heat.
Over the final 11:30 of the first half, North Carolina outscored NC State 35-18 to take a commanding 56-31 lead at the break. There would be no second half comeback, either. UNC started the second session on a 14-6 run to take a 70-37 advantage with 15:28 left.

It led to a long afternoon for the Wolfpack, who did not get a good performance from redshirt sophomore wing Dereon Seabron. The Pack star was just 1 of 6 from the field and finished with two points before being benched for the final 16 minutes of the contest.
That left Smith and Hellems without much help from their NC State teammates. While those two combined to shoot 19 of 38, including 8 of 18 on threes. The rest of the squad was a combined 7 of 29 overall and 2 of 7 on threes.
UNC meanwhile had three players shooting lights out on threes: sophomore Caleb Love (4 of 6 on threes and 21 points overall), super senior forward Brady Manek (5 of 7 and 17 points) and sophomore guard RJ Davis (3 of 4 and 17 points). Junior center Armando Bacot added a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds and added six blocked shots.
With the loss, NC State basketball falls to 10-12 on the season and 3-8 in the ACC. The Pack is scheduled to host Syracuse Wednesday evening for a 9 p.m. tipoff at PNC Arena against Syracuse, which will be televised on ESPN2.
The final stats from the game can be seen above.
