NC State is two wins away from bowl eligibility, and the postseason projections are varied as the Wolfpack enter its bye week. Entering Week 8, NC State’s new bowl projections include the Duke’s Mayo Bowl, Gasparilla Bowl, Fenway Bowl, Pinstripe Bowl and Military Bowl.

The Wolfpack (4-3, 1-2 ACC) fell 24-3 at No. 17 Duke last week, and are idle this week ahead of the final five weeks of ACC play. NC State will host Clemson next week after the bye before welcoming Miami to Carter-Finley Stadium the following week.

Here’s an updated look at the Wolfpack’s bowl projections entering Week 8:

The most commonly projected bowl for NC State is the Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium. The Action Network, CBS Sports: and ESPN’s Mark Schlabach all have the Pack headed to New York City to face off with Rutgers.

The Action Network’s Brett McMurphy set the opening line on the contest between the Scarlet Knights and Wolfpack as a pick ‘em.

The Athletic projected NC State to travel to another historic baseball stadium, this one Fenway Park, for the Fenway Bowl against Memphis.

College Football Network and ESPN’s Kyle Bonagura has the Pack headed to the Military Bowl against Tulane, while Athlon Sports projected NC State to face South Carolina in the Gasparilla Bowl.

USA Today was an outlier and had the Wolfpack traveling back to the Duke’s Mayo Bowl, which it lost to Maryland 16-12 a year ago, to face James Madison. JMU is in its second year of its FBS transition, and would require not enough 6-6 bowl-eligible teams to be able to play in a postseason contest.

While the Wolfpack have played in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl before, NC State has not appeared in any of the other postseason contests that the experts have projected them to play in.

NC State has appeared in 34 bowl games since 1946, including 16 since 2000. Wolfpack coach Dave Doeren is 3-4 in his seven bowl appearances at the helm of the red and white, and his last postseason victory came in the 2017 Sun Bowl, a 52-31 win over Arizona State.

Since Doeren took over as the Pack’s coach, NC State has played in the Gator Bowl twice, losses to Kentucky in 2021 and Texas A&M in 2018. His teams have also appeared in the Independence Bowl, Belk Bowl and St. Petersburg Bowl.

The Wolfpack have most commonly played in the Peach Bowl with seven previous appearances, but it has not appeared in that contest since 1994.
