NC State DE Red Hibbler wants to become an every-down pass rusher
Red Hibbler can remember it pretty well. As a junior college recruit, Hibbler did not play in front of many large crowds filled with a deafening fan base. Instead, he played in front of an average of 1,824 fans in attendance over two seasons at Northwest Mississippi Community College. But against Miami last year, in front of a sold-out Carter-Finley Stadium of 56,919 raucous fans, Hibbler was able to turn up the volume with his play on the field. He came screaming off the edge on third-and-16 with the Hurricanes on their own 15-yard line and strip sacked Miami quarterback Tyler Van Dyke. Hibbler, the Wolfpack’s third-down specialist to get after the quarterback, did just that and it allowed NC State to upset Miami 20-6 a year ago. That’s a far cry from the small town crowds he had been in front of, and well, it exceeded his expectations.
