NC State DE Savion Jackson agrees to UDFA contract with Los Angeles Chargers
Savion Jackson was a mainstay on NC State’s defensive line for five seasons. After he was consistent on the front line for the Wolfpack, Jackson is headed to the NFL.
The Clayton, N.C., native agreed to an undrafted free agent contract with the Los Angeles Chargers on Saturday afternoon, according to KPRC’s Aaron Wilson.
Jackson returned to NC State for a fifth season this past year and he put together a career-best performance. The defensive end logged 40 total tackles, nearly double his previous high, with 5.5 tackles for a loss and 2.5 sacks.
The 6-foot-2, 290-pound wrecking ball dominated opposing offensive lines this past season and his previous seasons of work paid off, despite being banged up with injuries at times. Jackson logged 106 total tackles in his NC State career with 13 for a loss, 3.5 sacks and a pass defended in 48 games played.
Jackson’s standout game came at Wake Forest this past season, where he logged four tackles, including a pair for a loss — his only contest of his career with multiple sacks . He paced NC State’s run defense that lived in the backfield for much of the game after his two first-quarter sacks.

But after that game, Jackson did not bat an eye at his dominance in the early part of the game. It was business as usual.
“It’s our standard as a defense to do what we do,” Jackson said. “It’s really normal. When we talk about this stuff, it’s normal.”
Now, that showing will be put on full display at the NFL level as Jackson works to earn a roster spot with the Chargers.
Jackson joins linebacker Payton Wilson, who was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers with the 98th overall pick, as members of the Wolfpack defense that took the next step in their career to the NFL.
