The Wolfpacker’s Wednesday morning newsstand

Wolfpack football’s season-openiner against East Carolina is just over two weeks away. Leading up to the matchup The Wolfpacker’s Matt Carter made his prediction for the matchup.

Here’s an excerpt from his story ‘NC State football game-by-game predictions: East Carolina.’

There is a poetic nature about opening the season, easily among the most highly anticipated in NC State football modern history, with a road game in Greenville, N.C., at a Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium that has not been kind for the Wolfpack.

In fact, the rivalry against East Carolina has largely been very competitive aside from the two most recent meetings, games NC State won in Raleigh by scores of 58-3 and 34-6.

However, NC State’s record in Greenville evokes bad vibes, like those Wolfpack fans get any time a Pack program visits Winston-Salem to play Wake Forest. (Good news, no such trips for NC State football in 2022).

The first time the Pack made the trek less than two hours east of Carter-Finley Stadium was 1999. That was former NC State football coach Mike O’Cain’s last game, a 23-6 win for the Pirates.

In 2007, Tom O’Brien took his first Pack team to Greenville and stunned the home faithful with a 34-20 win, a victory that would propel what had been a 1-5 NC State squad on a four-game winning streak.

Quote of the day

This quote is from new four-star linebacker recruiting target Andrew Harris sharing how he and his twin brother Michael Harris are approaching the recruiting process  an interview with On3’s Chad Simmons in January.

“We do everything together,” Harris said. “We are together all the time. Everyone that knows us, knows we are always together, and that is what we are going to do with recruiting too.

“We will take visits together, talk about our favorites together, and make the decision together. Michael and I will be going to the same college.”’
