NC State football commits in action: Week 2

Week 2 of the high school football season is complete, and most of NC State’s 12 class of 2023 commits wrapped up their second matchup of the season. The Wolfpacker put together recaps of the double-digit performances.
On3 Consensus three-star cornerback Brandon Cisse
Sumter (S.C.) Lakewood High School
Last game: In Lakewood’s 30-0 victory, Brandon Cisse scored a receiving touchdown and took a punt return to the end zone that was later called back. He also delivered several hard hits on defense.

On3 Consensus three-star safety Tamarcus Cooley
Rolesville (N.C.) High
Last game: NC State nickel-commit Tamarcus Cooley and Rolesville lost to East Forsyth 47-0.

On3 Consensus three-star wide receiver Kevin Concepcion
Charlotte (N.C.) Julius L. Chambers High
Last game: Kevin Concepcion played all over the field against Virginia-powerhouse Highland Springs. Chambers lost the matchup 26-20, but Concepcion had 258 all-purpose yards. He caught 5 passes for 125 yards and a touchdown, added 43 yards rushing and racked up 90 yards on two kick returns. Season stats: Through two games, the receiver has 10 catches for 235 yards and 2 touchdowns.

On3 Consensus four-star safety Daemon Fagan
Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) High
Last game: NC State safety-commit Daemon Fagan and American Heritage defeated Los Alamitos 56-27. Los Alamitos was led by five-star quarterback and USC-commit Malachi Nelson.
Season stats: Going into the matchup, the safety had 7 tackles and 2 passes defended.

Team record: 2-0. American Heritage is ranked No. 15 in the country according to MaxPreps.com.
On3 Consensus four-star safety Zack Myers
Asheville (N.C.) Christ School
Last game: Zack Myers caught 2 passes for 33 yards, including a 24-yard touchdown in Christ School’s 39-7 win over Polk County. He also recorded a tackle and three passes defended.
Season stats: The safety has 10 total tackles (three for loss) and three pass breakups. On offense has three receptions for 86 yards and a score.

Alpharetta (Ga.) High
Last game: Obadiah Obasuyi and Alpharetta did not play last week.

On3 Consensus three-star offensive tackle Darion Rivers
West Charlotte (N.C.) High
Last game: Darion Rivers and West Charlotte improved its record to 1-1 with a 40-6 win over city-rival Harding University. Rivers committed to NC State in March.

Boone (N.C.) Watauga High
Last game: Isaiah Shirley and Watauga extended its record to 2-0 with a 23-19 win over Maiden. According to the Watauga Democrat, the defensive lineman recorded 5 total tackles with 1 sack and also caught a pass for 16 yards.

Wilkesboro (N.C.) Wilkes Central High
Last game: Kamen Smith missed his season-opener with an injury, and his status for Wilkes Central’s 49-13 win against Avery County was uncertain.

Watertown (Conn.) The Taft School
Last game: The Taft School and Charlie Symonds start their season Sept. 24. Symonds committed to the Wolfpack quickly after his official visit in June.

On3 Consensus three-star quarterback Lex Thomas
Wake Forest (N.C.) Heritage High
Last game: Lex Thomas completed 8 of 15 passes for 123 yards and a touchdown, and he rushed for 45 yards and another score in Heritage’s 30-18 win over South Granville.
Season stats: The quarterback has completed 27 of 42 passes for 299 yards and and rushed 15 times for 130 yards and three scores in two games.

On3 Consensus four-star tight end Javonte Vereen
Havelock (N.C.) High
Last game: Javonte Vereen continues to put together an impressive senior season, catching 6 passes for 68 yards and a touchdown during a 61-0 win over West Carteret. He also added another touchdown on the ground.
Season stats: The four-star tight end has scored 5 total touchdowns, racking up 141 receiving yards on 9 catches and rushing for 2 more scores (3 rushes for 15 yards).
