NC State football commits in action: Week 8

NC State’s class of 2023 football commits wrapped up another week of their high school senior seasons over the weekend. The Wolfpacker put together all of the top performances from the future of the program. 

On3 Consensus four-star cornerback Brandon Cisse

Sumter (S.C.) Lakewood High 

Last game:  Brandon Cisse scored a touchdown, racked up 101 total yards and intercepted a pass to help Lakewood defeated Lake City (S.C.) High 15-6.

Team record: 3-4

On3 Consensus three-star safety Tamarcus Cooley

Rolesville (N.C.) High 

Last game: NC State nickel-commit Tamarcus Cooley forced a turnover and scored a touchdown during Rolesville’s 35-6 win over Raleigh Millbrook High. Cooley was also named to the 2022 Shrine Bowl roster.

Team record: 5-2

On3 Consensus three-star wide receiver Kevin Concepcion

Charlotte (N.C.) Julius L. Chambers High

Last game: Kevin Concepcion and Chambers defeated Huntersville (N.C.) Hopewell High 47-6. The receiver caught 2 passes for 38 yards and 1 touchdown. He also earned a spot in the 2022 Shrine Bowl.

Season stats: 15 catches for 293 yards and 3 touchdowns, 6 rushes for 63 yards and 1 score.

Team record: 5-2 and the No. 4 team in the state according to MaxPreps.com

On3 Consensus four-star safety Daemon Fagan

Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) American Heritage High

Last game: NC State safety commit Daemon Fagan and American Heritage blew out Davie (Fla.) Western High 42-8. Fagan defended 3 passes and made 3 tackles.

Season stats: 46 tackles (18 solo, 3 tackles for loss), 8 passes defended, 1 fumble recovery and 2 interceptions.

Team record: 6-1. American Heritage is ranked No. 13 in the country by MaxPreps.com.

On3 Consensus three-star running back Kyron Jones

Charlotte (N.C.) Christian School

Last Game: Kyron Jones did not record any stats during Charlotte Christian’s 56-6 win over Harrells (N.C.) Christian Academy.

Season stats: 739 rushing yards, 56 carries, 13.2 yards-per-carry, 160 receiving yards on 12 catches, 12 total touchdowns, 12 total tackles, 1 tackle for loss. 

Team record: 5-2

On3 Consensus three-star safety Zack Myers

Asheville (N.C.) Christ School

Last game:  Zack Myers and Christ School defeated Indian Trail (N.C.) Metrolina Christian Academy 27-8. The receiver and defensive back scored 2 touchdowns on 5 receptions for 93 yards. He also made 2 tackles.

Season stats: 20 total tackles (including 11 solo and 4 tackles for loss) and 5 passes defended on defense; 23 receptions for 495 yards and 5 touchdowns on offense. 

Team record: 3-4

Alpharetta (Ga.) High

Last game: Alpharetta and Obadiah Obasuyi had a bye week.

Team record: 4-2

On3 Consensus three-star offensive tackle Darion Rivers

West Charlotte (N.C.) High

Last game: Darion Rivers and West Charlotte lost to Cornelius (N.C.) Hough High 41-0.

Team record: 4-4

On3 Consensus three-star defensive lineman Isaiah Shirley

Boone (N.C.) Watauga High

Last game: Isaiah Shirley racked up 11 total tackles, 2 for loss and 1 sack in Watauga’s 34-20 win over Taylorsville (N.C.) Alexander Central High. The defensive lineman is the Pack’s third commit on the 2022 Shrine Bowl roster.

Season stats: 47 tackles (24 solo, 10 for loss), 5.5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 2 passes defended and 3 receptions for 26 yards. 

Team record: 6-1

On3 Consensus three-star offensive lineman Kamen Smith

Wilkesboro (N.C.) Wilkes Central High

Last game: Kamen Smith and Wilkes Central defeated Hays (N.C.) North Wilkes High 50-26.

Team record: 5-3

On3 Consensus three-star offensive tackle Charlie Symonds

Watertown (Conn.) The Taft School

Last game: The Taft School and Charlie Symonds won their second game of the season in a 41-21 victory over Andover (Mass.) Phillips Academy.

Team record: 2-1

On3 Consensus three-star quarterback Lex Thomas

Wake Forest (N.C.) Heritage High

Last game: Lex Thomas confirmed his season with Heritage is over in a recent Instagram post.

Season stats: The quarterback completed 41 of 58 passes for 534 yards and 3 touchdowns over three games. He has also rushed for 182 yards on 20 attempts and added 3 more scores. 

Team record: 5-1

On3 Consensus four-star tight end Javonte Vereen

Havelock (N.C.) High

Last game: Javonte Vereen caught 11 passes for 129 yards, and Havelock defeated Jacksonville (N.C.) High 36-34. He also returned a punt for 26 yards.

Season stats: The four-star prospect has scored 10 touchdowns, racking up 572 receiving yards on 45 catches and rushing for 4 scores (5 carries for 29 yards).
