NC State football going with unique look for Saturday
The uniform craze in college football can probably be attributed to Oregon’s colorful combinations that were mixed and matched starting around the 1996 season. Now every team, No. 11/12-ranked NC State football included, tries to vary the combinations of the school colors on a seemingly weekly basis.
On Thursday, NC State unveiled their uniform combination for Saturday’s final non-conference game of the 2022 season. Connecticut will come to Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh. The Wolfpack is heavily favored in the 7:30 kickoff, and the game will be televised on RSN affiliates or online on ESPN3 for out-of-market viewers.
Connecticut has yet to reveal what their uniform combination will be. Past history indicates that the Huskies will announce the threads some time Friday evening.
Thus far this season, Connecticut has played a pair of road games, and in both contests the Huskies broke out in all-white uniforms. That included a 31-20 setback at Utah State in the season opener for both squads and a 59-0 loss at No. 4 Michigan this past Saturday.
The only time UConn has not used a white helmet was when the Huskies wore all-navy in the home-opening win over Central Connecticut. A week later at home vs. Syracuse, Connecticut wore navy jerseys with white pants and helmet.
NC State is going with a unique look for the home contest.

For the first time in the Dave Doeren-era, NC State football will wear black helmets with red jersey and pants.
Last week, NC State wore all black during a 27-14 win over Texas Tech. Wearing the all-black unis has become an annual tradition for the Wolfpack. The Pack improved to 4-2 since 2017 when that once-a-year look became a thing.
The only other time that NC State football has worn black helmets were both against Florida State, in 2021 and 2020.
