NC State football coach Dave Doeren met with the media Thursday for one last time before Saturday’s 3:30 p.m. kickoff against Boston College. The game will be at Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh and can be seen on ACC Network.

A transcript of Dave Doeren’s availability is provided below.

On senior day:

Dave Doeren: “It’s a meaningful day. Last time you play in your home stadium as a player.

“For me as a coach I want to send them our right. I want them to walk out that tunnel and feel the emotions of it, but then when they go back up it at the end I want them to have that thrill of victory in the last time they’ll play in their stadium. It’s very personal as a player. It’s very personal as a coach for your player.

“That’s what this week’s all about. It’s really about that and the opportunity to have a legacy item as a team with the 17th win at home. That’s what we’ve been talking about.”

On the resiliency of the seniors:

Dave Doeren: “I think it’d be hard to shake this group. They’ve been down in many games, between all the things you just said, plus the stuff we all went through during Covid and after Covid with the societal things that happened. The team’s been through all of that together. The staff’s been through it and walked side-by-side through it.

“It’s a united group. It’s a group, that for all college football or all athletic teams, I should say, there may not be other periods of time where a team has the same kind of back-to-back-to-back things that you have to go through — having a bad season, then having Covid and then having social stuff that happened. It’s a lot. It’s completely bonded this group.”

On super senior receiver Thayer Thomas and fourth-year junior linebacker Drake Thomas:

Dave Doeren: “That family’s done a ton. Shoot, I’ve known them for a long time now, going back to recruiting Thayer and Drake, what they’ve meant to their respective sides of the ball and special teams.

“The ultimate teammates, hard-working guys, great family guys. Do a great job in the classroom, on campus, in the community. It’s been an honor to coach those guys and look forward to seeing them play one more time. I’ll miss them, I’ll you that.”

On super senior linebacker Isaiah Moore:

Dave Doeren: “Isaiah means a lot more than football to this program with his leadership — three-time captain, wearing No. 1 three years in a row, Pack United, starting that not with just the team but the athletic department and the campus. And just the type of human being he is. A high school coach in the area, he’s done a lot. A lot of college kids don’t have any idea what he’s done.

“We respect him. I think that’s one thing I’ve told him before. I look up to him. He’s a guy that’s a true role model.”

On the impact of a win Saturday:

Dave Doeren: “Two and a half years at home without a loss is a big deal. I think the honor that presents to the next group to try to sustain it. It’s incredible. I think there’s six of us in this list that I keep saying that’s the best win streaks in college football at home. Every one of those teams is a good team. To be in that list says a lot about our program.”
