NC State football has seemingly completed out the offensive coaching staff after losing offensive coordinator Tim Beck as head coach to Coastal Carolina, and then offensive line coach/run game coordinator John Garrison to Ole Miss. The latest move is hiring Virginia offensive line coach Garett Tujague to replace Garrison.

On3’s Matt Zenitz first reported the hire.

Tujague (pronounced TOO-jay) has working experience with new offensive coordinator Robert Anae. NC State football has not officially announced Anae’s hire, but the his former school Syracuse has already named Anae’s replacement.

Before his one-year stint at Syracuse, Anae was an offensive coordinator at Virginia for six seasons, and his offensive line coach during that entire time was Tujague.

Tujague also was Anae’s offensive line coach when the latter was the offensive coordinator at BYU from 2013-15. Prior to BYU, Tujague was the head coach at the College of the Canyons from 2007-12. College of the Canyons is a junior college in Santa Clarita, Calif. As their head coach, Tujague went 43-25.

He was promoted to the job after working as that program’s offensive line coach, starting in 1998.

The California native played collegiately on the offensive line at BYU, transferring into the program after a two-stint at a junior college. Tujague started at left guard his final season for the Cougars, blocking for Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Ty Detmer.

What remains to be decided is how the offensive coaching staff assignments will play out aside from Tujague. Anae’s prior positional coaching experience have been at receivers, offensive line and tight ends.

Remaining from NC State football head coach Dave Doeren’s coaching staff in 2022 are running backs coach Kurt Roper, receivers coach Joker Phillips and tight ends coach/special teams coordinator Todd Goebbel. Roper also has prior experience coaching quarterbacks.

Garett Tujague replaces Garrison, who has served as the NC State offensive line coach and run game coordinator since 2019. Garrison is moving to the SEC to be reunited with his boss during his one-year stint at Florida Atlantic — Lane Kiffin. The two worked together in 2018 before Garrison’s move to Raleigh.

At NC State, Tujague will inherit an offensive line in transition. The Wolfpack must replace three starters on the front, including first-team All-ACC members Grant Gibson at center and Chandler Zavala at left guard. In addition, versatile Bryson Speas, who started at both left and right tackle during the 2022 season, has also exhausted his eligibility.

Tujague will be the fourth offensive line coach in Doeren’s tenure at NC State. Mike Uremovich left after three years to become the offensive coordinator at Northern Illinois. Dwayne Ledford replaced Uremovich for three years before taking the OC job at Louisville. Garrison was hired after Ledford’s departure.
