NC State football on cusp top 10 of both polls

The Associated Press and coaches poll were updated Sunday following Week 3 of college football action. NC State football, after a 27-14 win over a Texas Tech squad thst had previously received votes in both rankings, has moved up to being on the cusp of the 10 in each list.

NC State moved up 2 spots to No. 11 in the coaches and rose 4 positions to No. 12 in the AP version.

In the AP, NC State leapfrogged Utah, who was previously No. 14 is now No. 13. The Pack also benefitted from steep falls in the rankings from BYU (No. 12 to 19), Miami (13 to 25) and Michigan State (11 to unranked).

After dropping from preseason No. 13 to 18 in the Associated Press following a 1-point road win at East Carolina, NC State has climbed back to rise above the initial ranking following a 3-0 start.

In the coaches poll, Michigan State fell from 9 to 21, setting up NC State up for a 1-spot improvement.

Elsewhere in the ACC (in addition to Miami), Clemson is No. 5 in each poll. NC State will travel to play the Tigers on Oct. 1. Wake Forest is No. 16 in the coaches and No. 21 in the AP, representing one of the larger disparities between the two rankings. The Pack hosts the Demon Deacons Nov. 5.

Pittsburgh remained in the AP version at No. 24 but fell out in the coaches ratings, receiving the next most votes. Florida State, who come to Raleigh to play NC State Oct. 8, is No. 27 when factoring other votes. The Pack also travels to Syracuse (Oct. 15) and North Carolina (Nov. 26), each of whom picked up votes.

East Carolina also landed a coaches’ vote, and Duke picked up a pair in that poll. NC State and Duke do not play this year.
