NC State football remains ranked in AP top 25 and coaches poll
NC State football’s clash with Tennessee will officially be a ranked matchup. The Pack remained in the Associated Press top 25 and USA Today Coaches poll, checking at No. 24 and No. 23 respectively.
The Wolfpack defeated Western Carolina 38-21 Aug. 29— a game at Carter-Finley Stadium where the program needed a 21-point fourth quarter to pull away from its FCS foe. Graduate quarterback Grayson McCall threw for 318 yards, sophomore receiver KC Concepcion caught 3 touchdowns and graduate running back Jordan Waters tied his career high in rushing.
“Obviously a game we would have loved to have been playing better in the first half, but I’m not going to apologize for winning either,” head coach Dave Doeren said after the game.
Thanks to that season-opening win, combined with everything else that happened around the college football world, NC State remained at the spot in the AP Poll while dropping from No. 22 to No. 23 in the Coaches ranking.
With 142 total points in the Associated Press rankings, the Pack checked in 8 points in front of Clemson and 19 points behind Georgia Tech.
