NC State sophomore guard Laci Steele plans to enter the transfer portal, her agent Amber Mathurin told On3 on Monday afternoon. She has two years of eligibility remaining.

Steele is the first Wolfpack player to announce her intention to enter the transfer portal this offseason. NC State currently has six open scholarships for the 2025-26 campaign.

While Steele, a former top-100 prospect, entered her collegiate career as a promising recruit, she couldn’t carve out a consistent role on the floor. Steele’s minutes were sporadic over her two campaigns with the Wolfpack.

The Edmond, Okla., product appeared in 55 games and she averaged 2.7 points in 9.7 minutes over two seasons at NC State. Steele posted a career-best 13 points against Virginia as a freshman, knocking down a trio of 3-pointers.

Steele averaged 3.4 points with 1.0 rebound on 33.3 percent shooting in 32 appearances as a freshman, but in a lineup littered with veteran guards, her usage didn’t increase this past season. Instead, it slightly decreased to 1.7 points with 0.9 rebounds in 6.8 minutes a night across 23 appearances.

The 5-foot-11 guard seemed tied to the bench, at times, and when she did see the floor, it wasn’t for a consistent stretch of time. Steele logged 10 or more minutes of action in just five games this season, including 14 minutes against Kent State on Nov. 14, where she logged a season-best 7 points.

Steele last appeared in the Pack’s 83-49 win over Michigan State in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. She scored 1 point with one rebound in eight minutes of action.
