NC State has 3 players invited to USA Baseball Collegiate National Team training camp
After a breakout season in the bullpen, NC State had three young relievers all receive invitations to the 2024 USA Baseball Collegiate National Team training camp in Cary.
Freshmen right-handers Cooper Consiglio and Jacob Dudan, along with sophomore closer Derrick Smith all garnered invites to the prestigious summer camp. They were just three of 56 non-draft eligible college players in the country to be invited.
The camp will contain two Stars vs. Stripes intrasquad games at the National Training Complex in Cary on June 26 and 27 at 6 p.m. After that, a 28-man roster will be unveiled for the 2024 Collegiate National Team International Friendship Series and Summer League Tour on June 29.
Consiglio made 15 appearances in his first college season with a 5-4 record and 38 strikeouts in 41.2 innings pitched. Dudan was an ACC All-Freshman Team selection after he led the team with 27 appearances to go with 56 strikeouts in 48 innings. Smith, the team’s closer, logged 41 strikeouts in 29.2 innings in 24 appearances.

Quote of the day
NC State football coach Dave Doeren knows there will be high expectations for his squad in 2024. He wants his team to embrace them.
“We kind of expect to be expected to win,” Doeren said. “We’ve done enough of that. We won two out of three against Clemson, we’ve won three in a row against Florida State, three in a row against Carolina. This team expects to win games. And so that’s what you do— you ride that expectation.”
