NC State holds No. 12 overall recruiting class following 4-star SG Matt Able’s commitment

The Will Wade era has officially arrived. He arrived at NC State with a knack for building the top recruiting classes in the country, and so far, the coach has done that with the Wolfpack.
Wade’s latest addition? Tampa (Fla.) Sagemont Prep four-star shooting guard Matt Able, the No. 21 recruit in the nation, who committed to NC State on Saturday afternoon.
The 42-year-old coach has formed a two-man recruiting class with Arden (N.C.) Christ School forward Mikey Wilkins, the No. 67 player in the 2025 cycle, which has surged to No. 12 overall in the cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking.
NC State now holds the No. 3 class in the ACC, just behind Duke (No. 2) and North Carolina (No. 7).

This is currently the highest-rated recruiting class in program history since the 2014 group of Abdul Malik Abu (No. 39 overall), Caleb Martin (No. 58 overall) and Cody Martin (No. 78 overall). Other notable classes in between include the No. 14 class in 2016 and the No. 18 batch of players in the 2018 cycle.
Wade’s initial surge in Raleigh would mark his fourth top-26 recruiting class in his career. He inked the No. 3-best group in the 2018 cycle at LSU, which included four top-60 recruits, headlined by Naz Reid.
The Tigers were able to use that elite recruiting class to its advantage as it built momentum that allowed Wade to guide LSU to three NCAA Tournament appearances in five seasons. Wade’s ability to inject top talent in Baton Rouge, La., which also included the 2019 SEC regular season title, was key in turning the Tigers around on a dime.
Now, as Wade looks to build a consistent winner at NC State, he has started to build the program’s foundation with a pair of high-level high school recruits.
