NC State Newsstand: Jacob Cozart, Dominic Fritton named D1Baseball preseason All-Americans

NC State baseball battery pairing of junior catcher Jacob Cozart and sophomore left-handed pitcher Dominic Fritton were named preseason All-Americans by D1 Baseball in a Monday afternoon announcement.
Cozart, a second-team selection by D1Baseball, earned his second preseason All-America nod after he was named a preseason first team All-American by Perfect Game earlier this month. The catcher hit .301 with 10 home runs, 14 doubles, two triples and 42 RBI en route to a second-team All-ACC selection last spring.
As a sophomore, Cozart was named a Dick Howser Trophy semifinalist, a Golden Spikes midseason watch list addition and a Buster Posey Award watch list selection a year ago. He has been tabbed as the No. 18 overall prospect in Baseball America’s Top 100 for this summer’s MLB Draft.
Fritton, meanwhile, was tabbed as a third team preseason All-American by D1Baseball. He was a freshman All-American by four different publications last season after he logged 75 strikeouts in 62.2 innings pitched last spring. He also led the team with three saves even though he only made eight relief appearances during the campaign.
The lefty led the Pack with a 3.59 ERA a year ago, and he also paced the team with 56 strikeouts in ACC play.

Quote of the day
NC State coach Kevin Keatts talked about the Wolfpack’s three-game losing streak during the ACC’s weekly media Zoom teleconference Monday morning.
“I just think every team goes through a rough patch during the year, and this is ours,” Keatts said. “If we had won one, lost one, won one, lost one, it would look a little different. But when you lose two or three in a row, it smells different, it doesn’t even feel good at all.”
