NC State wide receiver Josh Crabtree enters transfer portal

NC State redshirt sophomore wide receiver Josh Crabtree announced he entered the transfer portal Monday morning via social media. He is the fourth Wolfpack wide receiver to enter the transfer portal from this season’s squad. 

He has two years of eligibility remaining.

Crabtree saw action in all 12 of NC State’s games this season, all on special teams. He played a total of 105 snaps, almost half of which came on punt return. He was also featured on kick coverage, kick return and punt return. 

The Wake Forest, N.C., native was the team’s co-recipient of the Offensive Scout Team Player of the Year award during the 2022 season. He played 175 special teams snaps that season, and saw four offensive snaps against Charleston Southern. 

Crabtree appeared in three games during his freshman campaign, all at wide receiver for a total of five snaps. 

Crabtree was a local standout for the Pack at Heritage High School. He caught 47 passes for 711 yards and eight touchdowns in his senior season there. He helped the team to a second round appearance in the North Carolina 4A championships in his final high school season.

The wideout also recorded 45 receptions for 590 yards and five touchdowns during his junior season of high school football. While he was at Heritage, Crabtree was teammates with Pack standouts Drake Thomas and Thayer Thomas

Based on TheWolfpacker.com’s count, the wide receiver’s decision to transfer brings NC State down to 76 scholarships for the 2024 season once the 20 Wolfpack prep commits officially join the program. Crabtreejoins the following players who have also announced their intentions to transfer.
