NC State freshman wide receiver Kevin Concepcion lined up at almost every position possible in the Wolfpack’s 24-17 win over Clemson on Saturday afternoon. He was featured mostly in his usual spot at inside receiver, but he made explosive plays at outside receiver and running back, too.

Concepcion had a 72-yard touchdown reception in his lone snap at outside receiver, and he broke off a 50-yard run on his first carry of the game in the backfield. His 133 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns helped pace the Pack over the Tigers.

Not only did Concepcion lead NC State to a win with that performance, but Charles Power named him On3’s National True Freshman of the Week on Monday morning.

Kevin Concepcion looked like arguably the best player on the field in NC State’s 24-17 win over Clemson,” Power wrote. “The true freshman from Charlotte was the centerpiece of the Wolfpack’s offensive game plan and delivered in a big way. Offensive coordinator Robert Anae got Concepcion the ball in a variety of ways – receptions, speed sweeps and carries out of the backfield.

“The 5-foot-11, 187-pounder finished with five catches for 83 yards and two touchdowns along with two carries for 51 yards. He got things going in the first quarter, taking a carry out of the backfield and showing tangible burst in beating Clemson defenders to the edge en route to a long gain. Concepcion’s first score was on a pass to the flats from nine yards out. The highlight of the day came in the third quarter when Concepcion caught a quick in-breaking route on 3rd and 3 and proceeded to break a tackle and outrun Clemson’s defense for a 72-yard score – one that would end up being the difference in the game.”

It is Concepcion’s second time winning the award this season, and he was also named to On3’s Midseason Freshman All-America team

Tweets of the Day

NC State safety Sean Brown was impressive in a late-game position switch against Clemson.

It seems like coach Dave Doeren and former Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith talked over the weekend.

Doeren earned his 100th career win as a college coach after the Pack downed Clemson at Carter-Finley Stadium.

NC State Quote of the Day

This quote is from junior safety Devan Boykin about Concepcion:

“We knew he was going to be an elite player for us the day that he stepped on campus. He’s unbelievable. The things he does for our offense, how explosive he is, the plays he’s able to make, it’s just unbelievable — especially as a freshman.”
