NC State redshirt junior linebacker Caden Fordham will miss the rest of the season due to injury, Wolfpack coach Dave Doeren told the Pack Radio Network following the 24-17 loss to Syracuse on Saturday night.

Fordham was on track for a career-best campaign in the middle of NC State’s defense. He logged 49 total tackles in the first six games of the season, and also recorded two passes defended and one sack.

The Ponte Vedra, Fla., native had a career-best 13 total tackles in the Wolfpack’s 24-17 win over Northern Illinois on Sept. 28. That was Forham’s second 10-plus tackle effort of the season after he had 11 total stops against Louisiana Tech on Sept. 14.

Fordham played 321 defensive snaps as one of the Pack’s go-to defensive leaders. He forced nine quarterback pressures this fall to go with 26 total “stops,” a tackle that constitutes a failure for the offense, according to Pro Football Focus.

Fordham, NC State’s starting MIKE linebacker, did not dress before the game against the Orange. With him out, the Wolfpack started graduate Devon Betty at Fordham’s spot, while redshirt freshman Kamal Bonner was inserted to the starting lineup for the first time in his career.

Betty logged 10 total tackles, including 0.5 for a loss, in Fordham’s place against Syracuse. He doubled his previous season high of five tackles, which came against Wake Forest last week. While Betty racked up double-digit tackles for the first time, Bonner had a career-best nine total tackles, including one for a loss with a quarterback hurry.

Redshirt junior linebacker Sean Brown donned the in-helmet communication system without Fordham in the game. He logged eight tackles with two quarterback hurries and a pass breakup in the loss.

In addition to that linebacker trio, redshirt freshman Kelvon McBride played four snaps in a brief rotation with Bonner, who played the other 74 defensive snaps against the Orange.
