NC State junior linebacker Wyatt Wright will enter the transfer portal, TheWolfpacker.com learned Monday afternoon. He spent one season in Raleigh after signing with the program out of junior college in the 2024 recruiting cycle.

Wright joined the program as the No. 3 junior college linebacker in the country and the No. 58 JUCO prospect nationally coming out of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. He appeared in 1 game for the Pack this season and will redshirt with 2 years of eligibility remaining.

His agency, 3 Strand Sports & Entertainment, confirmed the news.

Standing 6-0, 215 pounds, Wright played 11 snaps in kickoff coverage against Stanford this fall but did not record a defensive snap.

“Not a lot of people can say that they got coached by Tony Gibson,” Wright said when he committed to NC State Dec. 2023. “That was an instant starter, but it was really the visit that sealed the deal, catching everybody’s vibe, everybody’s personality, the environment of everything, the program, so it made it easy.”

Before arriving at NC State, he recorded 82 total tackles as a sophomore. He also held offers from Arizona State, Arkansas State, Charlotte, Houston, Jackson State, Louisiana-Monroe, Southern Miss, Texas State, UCF, USF and Western Kentucky. The linebacker was a three-star prospect with every major recruiting service.

Wright attended Woodbridge High in Delaware before taking the JUCO route and earning his opportunity at NC State. He visited the Pack late last year and pledged to the program soon after.

“They have a certain standard of sending guys places where they want to go, developing guys into good players,”  Wright said when he committed.

The transfer portal officially opens Dec. 9. Wright is the second linebacker to transfer this offseason, joining fellow reserve Jayland Parker. Sophomore wide receiver KC Concepcion also announced his transfer decision Sunday.
