NC State lost another member of its linebacker corps to the transfer portal. Redshirt-freshman Torren Wright declared his intentions to leave the program Thursday afternoon.
After appearing in 7 total games, exclusively on special teams, during his second year with the Wolfpack, he chose to hit the portal for the remaining three years of his collegiate career. Wright was the program’s 2022 Special Teams Scout Team Player of the Year.
The linebacker announced his decision on social media.
“First and foremost I would like to thank NC State University staff, coaches, and players for an amazing 2 years,” Wright wrote on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. “After lots of prayer and talking with my family, I have decided I will be entering the transfer portal. All love.”
Wright played in each of the final four games of the regular season, making appearances on the kick coverage and kick return units. He made 1 solo tackle against Virginia Tech and assisted on another vs. Miami. Those are his only career stats over the past couple of years. The 6-2, 217-pound linebacker played 1 snap as a freshman as well.
